Gazetteers
Gazetteers are important to genealogists for many reasons.
- Help find your ancestral village.
- Give correct spelling (or alternate spellings) of your ancestral home.
- If you know your village, you need the gazetteer to locate the parish to which
it belonged in order to find church records. Remember to check various
gazetteers since parish boundaries often changed.
- If you know your village, you'll need to learn about neighboring villages to
see where "missing" ancestors may have come from or gone to.
- Learn more about your ancestral village: the population, the size, religious
breakdown, history.
